Omir Santos: Did We Catch Lightning In A Bottle?

The Mets have been socked with too many injuries and a fair share of adversity so far this season. When that happens, it becomes so hard to spot some of the good things that have also emerged out of all the drama and upheaval. One such positive has been the outstanding pitching of Livan Hernandez. Who could have ever predicted how vital he would become to our rotation? Another positive has been the emergence of Bobby Parnell who [...]

Fernando Martinez Will Stay With Mets When Church Is Activated

Although the decision to bring up Fernando Martinez was met with 50/50 support on this site when we were lobbying heavily for his callup, I bet that at least some of those opposing Mets fans agree that F-Mart has been a fine addition and has held his own. When talking to reporters after last nights game, Jerry Manuel pretty much confirmed that the Mets prized rookie will stick around when Ryan Church is expected to be activated [...]

Mets Minors – Brad Holt Makes AA Debut, Ike Davis, Josh Thole

Last years top draft pick for the New York Mets, first baseman Ike Davis, got a special mention in this weeks Baseball America’s Prospect Hot Sheet. The Mets used the 18th overall pick in last year’s draft to select Arizona State 1B Ike Davis mostly on the strength of his power projection. The key word is “projection,” because the 6-foot-5 lefthanded batter provided precious little power in the short-season New York-Penn League in his debut, batting [...]

Mets All Star Predictions

I remember during the trying times in the 90′s, the Mets would have one player representing them in the All Star Game. One lonely soul - just there because someone had to be - not necessarily deserving of the honor. In recent years, the Mets have had their share of players worthy enough of selection to the Mid-Summer Classic. This year, we might be looking at four Mets All Stars, including the National League’s starting pitcher. As of [...]

NL East Weekday Roundup

Atlanta Braves: (3-2; -6) The Atlanta Braves made more news off the field than on it, winning their weekend series against the Arizona Diamondbacks and splitting a rain-shortened series with the Cubs.  The Braves acquired Nate McLouth (prompting Pirate teammates to hold a candle-light memorial for McLouth in the clubhouse), who fill immediately step in as their best outfielder, with Garret Anderson, Jeff Francoeur, and Jordan Schafer having miserable seasons. Schafer was sent down to [...]

Mets Make Some Roster Moves To Replace Putz

After placing J.J. Putz on the disabled list today, the Mets called up right-handed reliever Fernando Nieve from Triple-A Buffalo and claimed lefty reliever Pat Misch off waivers from the San Francisco Giants. Nieve will take Putz’s spot on the roster and in the bullpen, while Misch was immediately assigned to Buffalo. To make room for Misch on the 40-man roster, the Mets moved rehabbing reliever Billy Wagner to the 60-day DL. Nieve signed as [...]

Pelfrey Cares, We’re Loving Sean Green, They Make How Much?

Good morning and welcome to another edition of Metsmerized Today! Mike Pelfrey got his clock rung yesterday in Pittsburgh in what he called the worst start in his career. Jerry Manuel agreed with that assessment and said, “Yeah, I would have to say Pelfrey was pretty bad.” Pelfrey actually had a pair of tickets to see the NHL Stanley Cup Final between the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins last night, but decided against [...]
