Tuesday Rants – Farewell To Jay Leno Edition
Last night after Angel Pagan slid into home and scored, a few key players took him to side and chided him. “What were you trying to pull with that slide dude?’ Beltran asked, “We don’t slide like that on this team, If you want to fit in with this team, it’s best that you get that whole sliding thing out of your head.” Ryan Church, nodded in approval. Seriously though, five errors? That’s way too [...]

How To Make Citi Field More Mets-centric in Four Easy Steps
According to Matt Gagne’s article in yesterday’s Daily News, Mookie Wilson is unhappy that the 1986 championship team isn’t celebrated at Citi Field. Gagne quotes Wilson as saying “I was a little surprised I didn’t see anything inside. To not put that in there would be denying part of your past – part of your rich past. We’ll have to wait and see. I think the ’86 team would like to be known as the [...]

Comedy and Tragedy For The Mets and Their Fans
While it was no laughing matter for the Mets and their fans, even the Dodgers’ players themselves found some humor in the Mets horrific display last night. Redding gave us a quality start and the Mets fought back to tie the game. And then … Two words - Third base. How does one miss it? I have been watching baseball for over 20 years and have NEVER seen a player miss the bag rounding third. Ryan Church [...]

5/18 Minor League Report! FERNANDO!
I have absolutely no words to describe what we just witnessed in Los Angeles. Buffalo 9, Pawtucket 2 Fernando Nieve’s first AAA start with the Mets was a success, he gave up just 2 runs on 3 hits, though he did walk 6, he picked up the win courtesy a 6 run outburst in the top of the 7th inning. The Bisons had 9 hits and drew 5 walks themselves, going 3 for 12 with [...]

It’s Time To Consider Our Trade Options
Last nights loss coupled with the loss of first baseman Carlos Delgado for an extended period of time, is enough for me to begin to consider some serious options in terms of a trade. First lets consider the whys… 1. The experiment in leftfield with Dan Murphy has been shelved because Jerry Manuel feels he needs a presence in the middle of the lineup. Right now that presence is named Gary Sheffield. 2. Carlos Delgado’s [...]

Wright Got Hot After Being Dropped In The Lineup
I took a look at David Wrights numbers this season and see how his splits looked since he was dropped from third in the batting order to fifth. These numbers do not reflect last nights game. Lets just ignore the one game where he batted cleanup and just compare his stats in the number three and five spots. The biggest gains were made in RBI’s, batting average and slugging which was 160 points higher. His [...]

Breaking News: Carlos Delgado Going Under The Knife
Adam Rubin is now reporting that Carlos Delgado has met with doctors and will now have surgery for the hip condition that has kept him out for almost two weeks. Carlos Delgado will have surgery in New York on Tuesday, the Daily News has learned. He has a bone spur and labrum tear. Mets doctors will perform the surgery. The team did not give any estimate on how much time Delgado would miss, but 8 [...]

Mike Pelfrey Ties Mets Record!
So for those who saw the final game of the series against the Giants, you clearly saw Mike Pelfrey looking uncomfortable on the mound. And I literately mean on the mound. The current record for most balks in the game is 5, set by Bobby Shaw in 1963. Mike Pelfrey gave up 3 in his start. This not only ties a Mets record for most balks in a game, but also is tied for the second [...]
