Pudge Rodriguez Still On Mets Radar
If you thought for one moment that that the Mets were done shopping or building this team, put such inklings away. The Mets are still interested in adding Pudge Rodriguez, but current backup catcher, Ramon Castro stands in the way. Aside from his defensive skills and any offensive skills he brings to the table, the Mets are most intrigued by the two World Series trips and the ring on his finger. And it’s not simply [...]

Pressure
In the forty five years the Mets played at Shea, some of the greatest ever have performed on the field. True legends have appeared on the green grass of our home. No, I’m not talking Tom Seaver, Sandy Koufax or Henry Aaron. I’m referring to some of the biggest names in the history of Rock and Roll. From 1965 through 2008, a wide variety of musical icons played before tens of thousands of fans. Everyone [...]

Three Up and Three Down
It’s so hard to make sense of the latest Mets wins and losses because most of the roster is off to the WBC. However, there are still jobs to be won and lost. Today the Mets split a pair of games, they had a 8-3 loss to the Nationals and then beat the University of Michigan 18-7. Here are some highlights and lowlights. The Highs Marlon Anderson stays hot and homered today while going 2-4. He is [...]

Pounded Again! Call Pedro!
Yesterday, I was told by many that I should not shed light on the solid performance by Pedro Martinez because it came against the Netherlands who happened to beat the Dominican Republic. I was like so what? What does that matter? He went out there without the benefit of training in a Major League camp and tossed three shutout innings and struck out four. I only wish that just one of our potential number five [...]

Sunday Brunch, MRIs and WBC
That whole turning the clock ahead thing has really messed me up bad. I went to bed so late last night only to find out it was actually later, and then I woke up later than usual only to suddenly realize it was 11:30 and not 10:30. I woke up starving, but I wasn’t about to eat last night’s pizza like my girlfriend was so I took the last two eggs and decided to make a [...]

Backup Outfield Spots Still Up For Grabs
Marlon Anderson, Jeremy Reed, Angel Pagan, Cory Sullivan and Bobby Kielty are in a heated battle to claim a spot on the Mets bench as the fifth outfielder. It looks like Manuel will have a tough decision to make when the time comes as all four are making strong bids to stay with the team. It was believed that Anderson’s spot was a lock, but that doesn’t seem to be the case now. Anderson is [...]

Martinez Impresses, Netherlands Upsets Dominican Republic
Pedro Martinez said that he would use the World Baseball Classic as an audition for any interested teams, and today’s outing against the Netherlands was a good start. Martinez replaced Rafael Perez for the 5th inning and proceeded to pitch 3 scoreless innings, face the minimum 9 batters, gave up one hit, and struck out four of the final five hitters faced. Martinez threw 40 pitches, a whopping 32 of them for strikes. He gave [...]

Pedro Martinez Puts On Impressive Performance
Pedro Martinez took the mound for the Dominican Republic this afternoon and served notice to Major League Baseball that he still has plenty of gas left in the tank. Pedro threw three shutout innings and allowed just one hit while walking none. Of his 40 pitches thrown, 32 of them were for strikes, a remarkable achievement. If you were worried about his durability, fear not. Pedro got stronger as he went along and in spectacular fashion [...]

Pelfrey Pulls Up Lame
Several sources have confirmed that Mike Pelfrey suffered a muscle strain in his lower left leg during his bullpen session on Friday. The plan is that there is no plan and that he will be sidelined until he is pain-free. The Mets made the announcement this afternoon. Pelfrey felt the soreness at the end of the session and was examined by team doctors, who then ordered him to rest. Hopefully this is nothing and will [...]

Santana Aces His Latest Test
Johan Santana cleared another major hurdle after throwing a 36 pitch simulated game this morning at Tradition Field. Santana threw a variety of pitches under the watchful eyes of the media, pitching coach Dan Warthen, Omar Minaya and even Fred Wilpon. Nick Evans, Rob Mackowiak, Rene Rivera and Cory Sullivan each of whom swung at and missed his signature changeup. He threw 22 of his 36 pitches for strikes. Afterward, Santana spoke to the press. “I [...]
