The New York Yankees are on the verge of acquiring lefty, J.A. Happ, from the Toronto Blue Jays. Jon Morosi of MLB Network confirms that there is a deal in place between the teams. Joel Sherman of the NY Post was the first to report that a deal was close.
Happ has a 4.18 ERA (101 ERA+) for the Blue Jays while also striking out while also striking out 27.4% of the hitters he has faced (the highest of his career). Happ’s FIP is a solid 3.84 and overall, he has been very solid over the last three years. Happ figures to slot in the Yankees rotation behind Luis Severino and CC Sabathia.
This likely takes the Yankees out of the running for Zack Wheeler unless they really want to push their chips to the center of the table. But with their bullpen, they just need to find a way to make it to October with all their arms intact and they should be fine.
As for the return, the Blue Jays are expected to receive two players, one of whom is infielder Brandon Drury as per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. The other is outfield prospect Billy McKinney.
