Although the New York Yankees have just added a MVP to their team that fell a game short of the World Series, they are not done yet. The Bronx Bombers are seeking starting pitching help and currently have Michael Fulmer and Patrick Corbin on their radar in early talks according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports.
If the Yankees were to add another starter, he would likely slot in a rotation alongside Masahiro Tanaka, Luis Severino, Sonny Gray, and Jordan Montgomery.
Fulmer, 24, was the 2016 American League Rookie of the Year. During his second season in 2017, he was named to his first All-Star Game.
He finished the season 10-12 with a 3.83 ERA, 3.67 FIP, 1.154 WHIP, and 114 strikeouts in 164 2/3 innings. Fulmer’s strength was keeping the ball in the yard as he led the league with a 0.7 HR/9.
Corbin, 28, finally started to get things back on track in 2017. The southpaw missed the 2014 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery and couldn’t fully replicate his 2013 All-Star season in 2015 or 2016.
While Corbin performed well in 2015, it was only for half a season as he spent the first half recovering from the Tommy John surgery.
In 2016 he went 5-13 with a 5.15 ERA, 4.84 FIP, 1.561 WHIP, and 131 strikeouts in 155 2/3 innings. He pitched in 36 games that season, but only started 24 of them.
In 2017 Corbin went 14-13 with 4.03 ERA, 4.08 FIP, 1.418 WHIP, and 178 strikeouts in 189 2/3 innings. He appeared in 33 games and started 32 of them.
