It’s going to be a long day on Christmas when I’m sitting around with my family who are all Yankee fans. My one cousin who is a Mets fan, won’t even be with us this year so that means I have to brave the gloating by myself.

I know there are a few people who are already waiting for me to say just one wrong word before they pounce on me for insinuating that the Mets are giving us the short end of the stick.

Luckily, I also know I have thousands and thousands of other Mets fans that are my allies tonight.. Mets fans who feel exactly like I do right now.

While the Yankees have been busy on their half billion dollar shopping spree, us Mets fans will have to be happy with the $37 million dollar tab, the Mets picked up on K-Rod.

Somehow I can’t help feeling like the kid who got underwear on Christmas morning, while my brother tore open the big huge box under the tree and unwrapped a Super Nintendo Game Console… the one with the wireless remotes… and the bonus Mario Kart game!

I guess we should all be thankful for our underwear… there are people in the world that don’t even own underwear…

Seriously, Mets fans shouldn’t worry… Omar is hard on the case of acquiring starting pitcher Tim Redding who was cast off by the Washington Nationals.

We’ll be just fine. Who needs Teixeira or Manny Ramirez for that matter… we have Daniel Murphy and Fernando Tatis.

Who needs CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett… we’ll have Jon Niese and Tim Redding.

Everything will be just fine. The Mets will always do just enough to put out a competitive product.

You should know by now that they will never go the extra yard… only the bare minimum it would take to appease a small majority of us. (and many of those appeasers are probably lining up to lash out at this post)

We should all be used to it.

Just put on your new underwear and be happy.

Maybe if we’re nice the Yankees will let us play with Teixeira, Sabathia, and Burnett during the Subway Series.
