Chris Capuano went seven strong innings and David Wright broke out of his slump in a big way and the Mets won 9-1, with Jason Bay playing for the first time this season

Game Notes

Chris Capuano came out today and was outstanding, pitching until the seventh inning, allowing one run on six hits walking two and striking out four. Capuano was great today, scattering six hits (two of which were by pitcher J.A. Happ). Capuano pitched significantly better then his last outing, and confidence seemed to be key.

Taylor Buccholz was the only pitcher to come out of the bullpen today, and he went two innings allowing one hit, walking none and striking out two.Buccholz has looked pretty good as of late, throwing more strikes and trusting his pitches.

The bats came alive today, with three home runs including Mike Nickeas’ first career ML home run, Ike Davis’ moonshot to dead center and David Wright’s slump-shattering blast to crack the game open. The offense overall erupted, scoring runs in the third, fourth, fifth and eighth. It was good to see the Mets erupt and really explode on a pitcher, especially an ex-Phillie. Mike Nickeas hit his first MLB home run in the third, setting up the Mets for the big day. The fourth inning was the big scoring inning, beginning with Wright’s solo shot, Carlos Beltran scoring on a wild pitch and Ike Davis hitting a sac fly, making it 4-0. The Mets struck in the fifth inning on a Wright double to the gap scoring Chris Capuano and Jose Reyes. The Mets continued the chaos in the eighth, with David Wright scoring after a Hunter Pence misplay allowed a shallow fly ball from Jason Bay to get passed him into the corner. Bay ran hard and scored as well, showing how poorly the ball was misplayed. Ike Davis sent a moonshot out and sealed the game

Angel Pagan – 0 for 3 with a strikeout and left in the seventh. No clue as to why

Jose Reyes – 0 for 3 with a run and a walk. Good to see him draw walks.

David Wright, Carlos Beltran, Jason Bay, Ike Davis – 5 for 14 with one walk, five RBI and five strikeouts. It is to be expected, but ill take the 5 RBI’s in lieu of the 5 K’s anyday.

Justin Turner – 1 for 4 and was caught stealing. The throw was excellent, but still not expecting him to steal much

Turning Point

When Terry Collins got kicked out and showed he wouldn’t deal with any mess from umpires. For the players? The fourth inning.

Game Ball

To the Mets as a team. This effort required the entire team to produce and pull their weight, and they did.
