After struggling for most of the postseason, David Wright has busted out of his slump. He collected three hits and a walk during four at-bats last night as the Mets beat the Cubs 5-2.

He entered yesterday’s game with a .087 batting average in 23 playoff at-bats, but he already showed signs of life in Game 2 against Jake Arrieta. He blasted a RBI double in the first inning against the Cubs’ ace to quickly put the Mets on the board 1-0.

Despite being on the verge of the World Series, Wright stressed the importance of trying not to think too far ahead. He is focused on taking it one game at a time and is prepared for Game 4 tomorrow.

“I think we’ll feel better after another win, that’s for sure. I think the last thing we could start doing is thinking beyond tomorrow. Tomorrow’s the most important game, and hopefully we can close it out tomorrow.”

“But this is an excellent team, and we’re playing good baseball. So the last thing you want to start doing is thinking about beyond tomorrow and all of a sudden you lose focus at the task at hand.”

It’s great to see that Wright has the correct approach heading into tomorrow’s game. The players can’t afford to lose focus or take anything for granted until the series is clinched.

While Wright hasn’t played up to expectations so far in the postseason, it looks like that’s about to change quickly. He’s just starting to heat up and his ability, leadership and experience make him one of the most important players on the team.
