David Wright was hit in the head by a pitch from Brewers starting pitcher Johnny Hellweg in the bottom of the third inning of during last night’s game against Milwaukee,

Wright ducked in an attempt to get out of the way of the inside pitch which still drilled him off the the helmet. He went down initially, but quickly got up to one knee and then stood up before removed from the game.

The good news is that Wright left the field under his own power and appeared to be fine once he made it back to the dugout.

He passed a concussion test that was performed in the trainer’s room according to Terry Collins, and he is expected to go through a battery of tests before Friday night’s game to make sure there’s no aftereffects. If everything checks out, Wright is expected to play, the manager said.

After the game, an alert Wright spoke with reporters and said he feels fine.

“It’s scary, having been through it before, but this seems different,” Wright explained. “It was not as painful this time.”

Wright is referring to the concussion he suffered when he was hit in the head by a Matt Cain fast ball years ago.

There is a little concerned about Wright’s thumb, which may have been injured when falling hard after the being hit by the pitch.

With just three games left, I’d just shut him down for the season. He’s proven that the hamstring problem is behind him. Use the last three games to evaluate someone like Wilmer Flores instead and give the captain a break..
