Mets third baseman David Wright got into the spirit on Saturday and surprised first-time All Stars Noah Syndergaard and Jeurys Familia with a special gift in their lockers to recognize them for their solid first half performances.
Newsday reports that the Mets captain gifted a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label to each of his teammates with a handwritten congratulatory note encouraging them to enjoy the experience.
“I love it,” said Familia whose note was even written in Spanish. “I’m going to leave it there like that forever in my house.”
A classy act by the seven-time All Star who has been with the team throughout this homestand to show his support and provide some inspiration.
Yoenis Cespedes (second) and Bartolo Colon (fourth) were also selected to the 2016 All-Star Game. Unfortunately though, both Syndergaard (arm fatigue) and Cespedes (strained quad) will not participate due to injuries.
