jeurys familia

In his second appearance for the Gigantes del Cibao on Monday night, Mets closer Jeurys Familia touched 100 mph on the radar gun.

With the Gigantes up 4-3, Familia was brought in to pitch the eighth inning. He struck out two batters, walked one and stranded the runner. With his scoreless outing Familia reduced his ERA to 10.80.

Still no word on how long of an extension Familia will serve as his domestic violence investigation is still ongoing by the governing body of MLB.

New York Mets closer Jeurys Familia made his 2016 winter league debut Friday night for the Gigantes del Cibao in the Dominican.

Familia entered in the seventh inning for Gigantes with a 1-0 lead. The first batter he faced was former Met Ronny Paulino who he got to ground out. Erik Gonzalez was up next, he singled, stole second base and moved over to third on a wild pitch. Familia then gave up an RBI ground out to Chesny Young to tie the game at 1-1.

Familia was then yanked after walking Jack Murphy with two outs. Enter Juan Carlos Oviedo (formerly Leo Nunez) who gives up a two-run homer to the first batter he faced allowing Familia’s runner to score.

Final line on Familia: 0.2 IP, H, 2 ER, BB, blown save, loss

The Gigantes lost the game 12-2 and fell to 0-2 in the round robin portion of the Dominican Winter League playoffs.

Winter ball has come to an end for Asdrubal Cabrera as the Leones del Caracas failed to qualify for the Venezuelan Winter League playoffs.

The Mets shortstop went 3 for 32 with three walks and ten strikeouts while playing almost exclusively second base in ten games.
