When Mets fans think of Willie Harris, they think of the stinker who made diving catches that took wins (and possibly playoff berths) away from the Mets.  I was happy to see the Mets signed Willie Harris, mostly because I don’t have to see him on the opposing team and making ridiculous plays against us.

When the Mets signed Willie Harris, I wondered how he would contribute to the Mets as a player. But we weren’t sure of how R.A. Dickey would contribute either and look how he turned out.

Through 15 games this spring, Willie Harris has a .317 AVG, with 3 HRs, 9 RBI’s, and has a .440 OBP. Not bad at all, even for spring stats.

But hey, if he could do that during the first 15 games of the regular season, watch out.

Will he be as productive when it comes to the regular season? Its definitely a possibility. Ike Davis had a great spring training last season, went down to the minors, got called back up and had a very productive season both offensively and defensively. We could go out on a limb and say he was “superman” with all the over-the-dugout fence catches.

All in all, Willie Harris is having a nice spring.  I think he’ll be a player to watch as he contributes at multiple positions defensively and come off the bench as a pinch-hitter. But one thing is certain, it’s going to be refreshing to see him snatching victories away from other teams with his glove rather than us. I think we can all agree we’ve had enough of that.
