According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, former Colorado Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario is looking to return to the Major Leagues after a successful season for the Hanwha Eagles of the Korean League.
In 127 games, Rosario hit .321/.367/.593 with 31 doubles, 33 homers, and 120 RBI. This is a marked improvement from the .273/.306/.473 hitter Rosario was during his five years in the major leagues.
While there is a significant difference between the Korean Leagues and Major League Baseball, the major league success from players like Jung Ho Kang, Hyun Soo Kim and Seung-hwan Oh show the level of play in the Korean Leagues could be higher than initially believed.
While Rosario broke through as a catcher for the Rockies, his best position is either first base or DH. With that in mind, it is hard to believe a Mets organization that seemingly values pitch framing and catcher defense would seek to sign Rosario to either back-up or compliment Travis d’Arnaud.
Still, the Mets may have interest in him depending on their opinions on whether Lucas Duda could withstand a full 162 game season after him having suffered back injuries in back-t0-back seasons. Rosario hit .319/.356/.604 against left-handed pitching in his previous big league experience. Could be enough for some major league team to give the 27-year another chance.
