New York Mets right-hander Zack Wheeler is due to undergo a minor surgical procedure to remove an undissolved stitch from last year’s Tommy John surgery, according to a report by ESPN.com.

“The operation is not considered serious, and Wheeler may resume his normal pitching rehab within two weeks, after allowing the wound to heal.”

The report also adds that Wheeler was examined on Thursday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan and his MRI came back “super clean.”

Wheeler was expected to return to the Mets rotation around July 1, it’s uncertain if this new development changes that. We’ll learn more once the team addresses it with reporters.
