So last night I’m having an email exchange with one of our writers, Clayton Collier. We talked about the Mets and Dickey mostly when he suddenly tells me he just asked free agent Omar Vizquel if he would ever consider signing with the Mets if they made him an offer. Surprisingly, Vizquel replied and said, “Not, really”.

Clayton wondered if he should make a post about it on MMO and of course I told him I don’t think that it was worthy of it’s own post and maybe it would be an interesting part to a Mets Notes like post. Anyway, this morning I go online and what do I see as the top stories on MetsBlog and MLB Trade Rumors? Yeah, you guessed it. This goes to prove two things I always tell people:

1. One man’s garbage is another man’s gold.

2. I still have a lot to learn about running a fan site.

Now as for Vizquel giving the Mets the “persona non grata” treatment, it goes to show that even players at the end of their rope would rather retire than play for the Mets right now.

Okay, raise your hands if you remember all the hype and hoopla surrounding a former Mets #1 prospect named Lastings Milledge? Of course you remember him, I’m just kidding with you, but here’s another classic example of another cant-miss phenom who missed and missed big.

Yesterday, the Yakult Swallows announced that they have signed Milledge to a $570K deal with a club option for 2013.

The Mets selected Milledge, now 26, with the 12th pick in the 2003 draft. After 350 at-bats with the Mets in which he batted .256, he was traded to the Washington Nationals for Ryan Church and Brian Schneider.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Okay we’ve all seen and heard the debate surrounding R.A. Dickey and his date with destiny with Mt. Kilimanjaro, but here’s something that should piss most of you off…

Andrew Marchand of ESPN NY, wrote the following regarding the Mets concerns with Dickey climbing Kilimanjaro:

Dickey has one-year left on his $7.8M, two-year contract. He is scheduled to make $4.5 million in 2012. Given the Mets’ money woes, it is unclear if they will be rooting for Dickey or the mountain during his adventure.

Wow, what a terrible attempt at humor.

~~~ Have a great day!
