Is there anything left in his bag of tricks that Michael Conforto has yet to show us?Look, we’ve seen Conforto show off his powerful arm before, but last night’s throw to gun down Miguel Rojas as the plate was a sight to behold, I mean what an unbelievable play.
Check it out…

What made the play even more exciting was that the game was knotted at 2-2 and the bases were loaded. When Christian Yelich hit that screaming liner to Conforto in left, everyone in the stadium and in the booth thought for sure that the Marlins would take the lead.
But Conforto threw a perfect strike to Rene Rivera to complete the inning ending double play and send the game to the eighth.
“The ball got out to me pretty quick on a line and I felt I was close enough to make a good throw,” Conforto said after the game. He could not contain his enthusiasm once the umpires confirmed the out call after Don Mattingly challenged the play.
“I was just so excited about making a big play and putting the team in a position where we could win the game and better position than we would be,” Conforto said. “I was fired up.”
Despite the limited playing time, Conforto has taken full advantage of his scant opportunities to still impress at the plate, batting .400 (6-for-15) with a double, two home runs and five RBIs.
His early season performance follows a strong spring training that saw him bat .300 (18-for-60) with a double, a triple, three home runs and a .550 slugging percentage.
Seriously guys, this kid is so unbelievably talented and every time I see him play I get so anxious for the day he’ll finally stake a claim to an everyday job and give the Mets a young perennial All-Star.
Conforto, 24, has all the tools you want in a corner outfielder and his arm is reminiscent of Darryl Strawberry‘s. Throw in his maturity, his baseball acumen, a sweet line drive swing that will generate plenty of power, and what’s not to love. He also seems to be cut out of the same fabric as David Wright and I can see him emerging as a clubhouse leader in the near future.
