Veteran right-handed starter Doug Fister has decided to opt-out of his deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to become a free agent.

Fister, 33, made three starts for the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees with two good ones and got roughed for five runs in five innings during his last.

Overall, in the three starts he had a 4.02 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with ten strikeouts and five walks in 15.2 innings. His best start actually came against the Mets Triple-A affiliate, the Las Vegas 51s when he allowed one run in five innings and struck out seven.

The Mets rotation took on another hit on Wednesday night when right-hander Zack Wheeler was put on the 10-day disabled list with bicep tendinitis. Fellow righty Tyler Pill got the start on Wednesday and got roughed up by the Dodgers allowing six runs (five earned) in six innings.

Fister played for the Houston Astros in 2016 and pitched to a 12-13 record with a 4.64 ERA in 32 games started.

Fister’s best season came in 2014 for the Washington Nationals, when the righty went 16-6 with a 2.41 ERA.

In eight big league seasons, Fister has a 77-76 record with a 3.60 ERA and 6.0 K/9.

The Mets were one of four teams that watched Fister’s showcase before he signed with the Angels.
