According to Bradford William Davis of the New York Daily News, an unnamed New York Mets player has spoken up in response to Monday night’s bombshell report via Mina Kimes and Jeff Passan of ESPN detailing Mets general manager Jared Porter’s sending of unsolicited, explicit images via text message to a female journalist covering the Chicago Cubs in 2016.
The player, per Davis:
“I just finished reading the article. [Expletive] disgusting, the Mets have to fire him. They can’t get this wrong. She left the profession because of this man, he cannot be employed.”
Porter, 41, was hired as the Mets general manager in mid-December. With these disturbing facts coming to light, it’s fair to assume his tenure could be coming to an unexpectedly abrupt end.
Mets team president Sandy Alderson released a statement to ESPN on Monday night updating the situation while promising a follow-up once the organization “reviews the facts” internally. Davis’ source within the Mets clubhouse believes the Mets have seen enough to make a swift determination.
“What facts do you have to review?” he said. “It’s all laid out there in the article like text by text, with screenshots.”
We’ll keep you posted as new developments emerge.
