Rafael Montero fired 3 2/3 gutsy innings of one run ball in relief of Zack Wheeler on Monday night in Los Angeles.

The performance helped keep the Mets in the game after Wheeler imploded for seven runs in just two innings, but left the team without a definite starter on Wednesday.

According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com on Twitter, rookie right-hander Tyler Pill will draw the nod for the Mets in game three of the series at Chavez Ravine.

Pill, 27, has appeared in four games for the Mets in 2017, pitching to a 0-2 record, with a 3.75 ERA, 3.29 FIP and a 1.583 WHIP in 12 innings.

Pill, who has similar mechanics to former Met Dillon Gee, toed the rubber for his first career start on May 30 against the Milwaukee Brewers and tossed 5 1/3 innings of one run ball.

He allowed five runs (three earned) over five innings in his next go around on June 4 against the Pittsburgh Pirates and was sent down on June 11 when Steven Matz, Seth Lugo and Yoenis Cespedes returned from their respective injuries.

Pill is slated to face-off against veteran southpaw Rich Hill (3-3, 5.14 ERA) on Wednesday.
