Free agent reliever Tyler Clippard and the Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed on a two year deal worth $12.25 million dollars reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. The deal includes a $4 million signing bonus, and then salaries of $4.1M in 2016 and $4.15M in 2017.
Clippard, 31, went 3-0 with a 3.06 ERA and 1.052 WHIP in 32 relief appearances for the Mets last season with a 7.2 K/9. He has been baseball’s most durable reliever, tossing an MLB leading 464.1 innings over the past six seasons, while posting a 2.67 ERA with 10.1 K/9.
The Mets were reportedly interested in bringing back Clippard but only on a one year deal.
Sandy Alderson acquired Clippard from the Oakland Athletics at the trade deadline for right-handed pitching prospect Casey Meisner.
Last week, Alderson told reporters that the team was essentially done adding any new players on a major league deal and that they could still sign a couple of players on minor league deals.
He also said it was conceivable that recently acquired outfielder Alejandro De Aza could be traded this Spring.
