Mets shortstop prospect Andres Gimenez turned 21 years old last month and posted a 105 wRC+ in Double-A this season while playing gold glove caliber defense, yet people have been writing him off.

Well, Gimenez is trying to quiet that crowd in the Arizona Fall League. On Thursday night as the Scottsdale Scorpions leadoff hitter, he went 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

The left-handed hitter is now slashing .333/.400/.533 in 12 AFL games with six extra base hits, 14 RBIs, and two stolen bases. He’s also shown off his lauded defense:

Mets catcher prospect Ali Sanchez continued his struggles in the Scorpions 3-1 loss, going 0-for-4 and seeing his OPS drop to .470. On the bright side, the defensive-minded catcher threw out a runner trying to steal second.

It’s been an up-and-down season for right-handed reliever Ryley Gilliam. The 2018 fifth round pick was fast-tracked to Triple-A this season, only to struggle there and finish the season on the injured list. One unearned run was scored against him in his inning of work on Thursday. He allowed two hits, no walks, and struck out two.

In AFL action, the former Clemson closer, has given up only one earned run on seven hits, zero walks, and seven strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

Mets left-handed pitching prospect Blake Taylor finished off his fifth game for the Scorpions with a scoreless ninth inning. He has allowed two runs on three hits, two walks, and has struck out nine batters in his six innings of work.

Taylor, acquired for Ike Davis, is finally pitching well after becoming a full-time reliever in 2019. He posted a 2.16 ERA with 74 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings during the regular season between Single-A St. Lucie, Double-A Binghamton, and Triple-A Syracuse.

Gimenez has been chosen for the AFL All-Star Game – along side Mets prospects David Peterson and Jordan Humphreys – that takes place on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on MLB.com.
