Baseball America talked about 16 signings from the 2019 international prospect class that have a potential power/speed combination. The Mets had two players on the list in Alexander Ramirez and Jostyn Almonte.

Ramirez, 17, signed with the team in July for $2.1 million and is seen as a “plus runner who has good bat speed and the potential to grow into plus power.” He’s ranked 19th on the Mets’ top 30 prospects list according to MLB Pipeline. They refer to him as a “true centerfielder” in their analysis of him.

Almonte, 16, was signed for only $80,000 this past summer, but appears to have some potential in the eyes of Baseball America.

“He’s stoutly built at 5’11”, 195 pounds but moves well for his body type, with plus speed underway,” Ben Badler says. “His bat speed and strength could eventually lead to average or better power.”

MLB Pipeline does not rank Almonte among the team’s top 30 prospects. The Mets are among three teams on the list with more than one player from this past year’s international prospect class.
