According to Andy Martino the Daily News who spoke to two high-ranking officials, the Mets are unlikely to pursue high-profile outfielders like B.J. Upton, Michael Bourne and Shane Victorino this offseason,
Andy Martino reports in this morning’s Daily News.
“The Mets do not view this offseason as the time to commit significant money to outfielders,” the two high-ranking sources said and that “it’s unlikely the the team will offer even a two-year contract” this offseason.
Finally, Martino reports that next year’s payroll will likely be at or slightly above $90 million and up to $95 million. That’s about what Sandy Alderson himself cited in an interview three weeks ago on WFAN, so no real news there.
The Mets will try to keep Scott Hairston from free agency, but as nice as that sounds, I believe Hairston priced himself out of the Mets price range months ago.
