On July 2, the trio of Jeurys Familia, Luis Avilan, and Justin Wilson were activated off the injured list and inserted back into a Mets bullpen that had struggled all year up to that point.

That group was a big reason for bullpen disaster with all of them failing to start the season off strong. Wilson had a 4.82 ERA when he came off the IL, Familia was at 7.81, and Avilan had an ugly 9.28 ERA to begin his Mets career.

The Mets bullpen ERA of 3.88 in the second half ranks sixth in baseball and second in the National League. Familia (2.93 ERA), Avilan (0.68 ERA), and Wilson (1.06 ERA) have combined for a 1.58 ERA over 45 2/3 innings since July 2. Avilan and Wilson have come up big in key spots while Familia could be working his way back into more important situations.

Despite the continued struggles of Edwin Diaz, the Mets are only a game and a half back from the second Wild Card spot in the NL in large part thanks to this trio and Seth Lugo in the pen.
