After losing Taijuan Walker earlier Monday night, veteran reliever Trevor May left the mound with an apparent injury. John Flanigan of MMO reported a noticeable injury during a pitch to Alec Bohm. Eduardo Escobar quickly called for the training staff and Buck Showalter to check on May.

Joely Rodriguez came on to replace May in the eighth, ultimately serving up a two-run home run to J.T. Realmuto. The flood gates opened up later in the inning for five Philadelphia runs.

According to Steve Gelbs, Trevor May and Taijuan Walker will receive MRIs tomorrow to further evaluate their arm injuries. After the game, May stated, “…the beginning of the year I usually work through some bicep, tricep soreness. It’s a normal thing for me.” He went on to say, “…it’s my version of dead arm, a little bit.” It appears May had been feeling this leading up to the season, but the images will tell the true story. Check out the full version of the postgame interview.

As one of the Mets’ high leverage relievers, May expressed optimism, according to MMO’s Ben Reimer, about the 2022 bullpen heading into the season. As the injuries pile up in April, the reliever corps will need to turn that optimism into results. The team will hold its collective breath awaiting an official report on the extent of May’s injury.
