Mets catcher Travis d’Arnaud is roughly a week away from catching in rehab games, according to assistant GM John Ricco.
D’Arnaud is making throws in Florida of up to 150 feet, but not releasing the ball full throttle yet, Terry Collins added. He’s been on the disabled list since April 26 with a right rotator cuff strain.
Travis began a rehab assignment with St. Lucie on Sunday, however he won’t be playing tonight as the game was postponed due to Tropical Storm Colin.
Original Report – June 5
Travis d’Arnaud began his rehab assignment on Sunday and went 1-for-5 with an RBI single as he designated hitter fort High-A St. Lucie.
D’Arnaud, who has been on the disabled list since April 26 with a right rotator cuff strain, has yet to do any throwing.
“I think it’s a ways away throwing-wise,” Terry Collins said Friday. “I just think it’s important to start getting some at-bats.”
However, given the Mets officially started him on his rehab assignment, they now have 20 days to activate him or option him to Triple-A. It’s more likely that he will be activated sometime in the next three weeks.
The next big step for d’Arnaud is when the Mets deem his shoulder ready to start as the catcher and throwing.
