Mets catcher Tomás Nido was scratched from the original lineup for Friday’s game against the Marlins in Port St. Lucie. The Mets say that Nido suffered a contusion in his left foot after fouling a ball off it on Thursday.

Fortunately, the x-rays were negative and Nido is considered day-to-day. Veteran catcher Caleb Joseph replaced Nido in the lineup, batting ninth and catching.

Nido came into camp as the favorite to be the backup to James McCann on the Mets Opening Day roster. The 26-year-old was off to a hot start in 2020 before he tested positive for COVID-19 and experience further complications that knocked him out for the season.

Nido was hitting .292/.346/.583 in seven games before dealing with the virus last year.
