In the same conversation that revealed the incoming promotion of right-handed reliever Bobby Wahl, New York Mets assistant general manager John Ricco has informed Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio that the Mets expect to activate third baseman Todd Frazier for tonight’s series opener against the Atlanta Braves.
Frazier, who had been rehabbing from a left ribcage muscle strain that has shelved him since July 9, will hope to finally settle in and make an impact in a lineup that could use just about any reinforcement. He has hit just .217/.300/.385 this year with 10 home runs and 32 RBI, but had been struggling to an even worse .196/.233/.357 line in his last month of baseball before making his second stint on the disabled list.
The veteran went 3-for-12 with a homer during his four-game rehab stint between the St. Lucie Mets and Brooklyn Cyclones.
A corresponding move has yet to be announced, although this move would only require that the organization drop somebody from their active roster, unlike the case with Wahl, who will occupy somebody else’s spot on the 40-man roster. Infielder Phillip Evans had to leave the game early on Wednesday with a potential knee injury, him going to the DL seems like a logical swap.
