The Mets have recently been connected to Todd Frazier, as an option at the hot corner for next season.

The 31-year old hit .213/.344/.428 last season with 27 home runs and 74 RBIs to give him a 108 wRC+. Defensively, he recorded a superb 10 defensive runs saved at the position. Frazier accumulated a 3.4 WAR over the course of the season that he split between the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees.

In an interview with Kevin Kernan of the New York Post, Todd Frazier talks about his interest in still improving next season. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

“It’s going to be a new revitalized me. I want to prove that I’m worth it. I want to be prepared and be the leader I can be on the field. I know whatever team I do fit with, they’re going to get the best Todd Frazier they are ever going to have because I want to play better.”

“I want to get my average up. I have a lot of goals set for myself.Whenever we figure out what team we are going to go with, it’s going to be a lot of fun because I’m going to get these guys going as much as I am going to get myself going.”

Over the course of his career, and especially with the Yankees last season, he established himself in the league as being a strong clubhouse presence.

These above quotes reflect that as it appears he is not just looking for the money this off-season. He wants to be worth the money he is making and wants to work hard each and every day to make himself a better player so that he can be a productive member of whatever roster he is a part of next season.

Frazier also commented on his talks with the Yankees and Mets and said this regarding his talks with the latter:

“That’s another team we’ve had contact with. The communications we’ve had with them has been great, and it has been communications with a lot of teams, not to just pinpoint one or two teams.’’

While that is extremely far from saying he will be donning blue-and-orange next season, it is good to hear that the Mets have had good conversations with the two-time All-Star.

The New Jersey native has been said to have interest in staying in New York, more specifically with the Yankees, but it appears he at least has some interest in the idea of potentially moving from the Bronx to Queens in 2018.
