In the past 24 hours, we have all been bombarding this site and message boards with varying opinions on the Lastings Milledge trade. Most of the opinions are panning it, citing Milledge’s’ upside, youth, energy and the lack of Church/Schneider’s’ qualities in the same areas. Church strikes out too much, Schneider can’t hit… Mets ownership had a vendetta against Milledge and Lo Duca. The list goes on.

In all honesty, I’m not 100% sold on this trade myself. I liked Milledge and Lo Duca, but I’m not in the front office or on the team, so it’s hard for me to say what’s good for the New York Mets organization. I am just a die hard, orange and blue bleeding Mets fan. I’m sure the gut wrenching, stomach churning and seething anger is commonplace among all of us Mets fans after every loss, and especially this years mess. I know one thing; Omar isn’t trying to make the Mets worse.

The fact is Milledge wasn’t as highly touted as he used to be. In one of his interviews, Omar said he would not have traded him if it would have prevented him from making a deal for pitching. Omar is very much aware of what we need and I trust he will do his best to meet that need. I can say one thing, I will always remain loyal to the New York Mets as an organization and not the players, who come and go. Of course, I love certain players like Strawberry, Hernandez, Carter, Piazza and now Pedro. Players come and go though. and the Mets will be around as long as the league prospers.

I realize that the Mets latest bonehead trades have made us all gun shy, especially when giving up prospects…Scott Kazmir for example. (Ouch!)

Every once in a while, trades that seem one sided turn out ok…like in 1984 when the Mets gave up 4 prospects for a grizzled old 10- year veteran catcher…Gary Carter, who just happened to be a final piece of puzzle to that 1986 team.

All I know is that whether or not this trade works out, I will continue to be a Mets fan….as long as there is air in my lungs! Keep believing guys…the winter isn’t over yet!
