It is looking like there will be no dominanting lead in the NL East in 2007 for the Mets.

I thought the Phillies might fall out of it when Chase Utley broke his hand, but then they added Tadahito Iguchi to fill in until he returns. We have a 4 game lead on both the Braves and the Phils. Not bad, but not great.

Last season, we finished 12 games over the Phils in the NL East standings. I would say that the second place team this season will finish within single digits games back.

Jose Valentin is probably out for the year for the Mets. Gotay is there now, but hopefully we’ll be able to get a second baseman by the deadline. Rumors on ESPN are pointing to Luis Castillo coming to the Big Apple. He is not a power hitter, but he hits for average and is a scrappy player that would fit right in. I wouldn’t mind him at all.

The Braves look like they are most likely to get Mark Teixeira from the Rangers, which wouldn’t bode well for the Mets.

Our batters really need to step up. Our offense has been better, but it needs to be consistent. You can’t go score 7-9 runs one game, and then 1-3 runs in the next game. That’s not going to get you very far.

The Mets need pitching, the Mets could really use an extra bat in the line-up. Omar Minaya should do something about this.

We are the Mets. This is New York. Lets get something done.

LET’S GO METS!
