Jon Morosi of MLB Network provided an update on the reported three-team deal between the New York Mets, New York Yankees, and Miami Marlins, confirming the deal is “not progressing”.

Despite the apparent snag in the three-team deal that would have presumably sent catcher J.T. Realmuto to Flushing, with Noah Syndergaard‘s name being floated as a possible chip in the move, the Mets “continue to show interest” in the backstop.

Realmuto, 27, hit .277/.340/.484 in 2018 with 30 doubles, 21 home runs, 74 runs batted in, and a 131 OPS+ rating in 125 games (531 plate appearances) for Miami last season.

Jon Heyman of FanCred Sports confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the Mets are “very aggressive” on Realmuto, but are weighing whether to part with starting shortstop Amed Rosario or Syndergaard in a potential deal, adding “[the] Mets didn’t want to open [a hole at shortstop], but that hasn’t been ruled out”.

Perhaps initial reports of the Marlins being dead set on either Michael Conforto or Brandon Nimmo have fallen by the wayside.

Morosi is now reporting that the Phillies are also “involved in [Realmuto] trade talks”. Whether this incites Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen to step up his offer is yet to be determined.

We’ll keep you posted as any new information becomes available.
