At noon today, the Mets will introduce their 25th manager, Carlos Mendoza, to the New York media… kind of.

Mendoza, a veteran of the New York Yankees organization, alongside with David Stearns and Steve Cohen, will talk to the press about his new gig.

He earned the job over Craig Counsell, with his reported enthusiasm for the role setting him above the sought-after Counsell, who was introduced as manager of the Cubs on Monday. Since the hire was initially reported, Mendoza has earned tremendous praise from evaluators and his former employers. His passion, attention to detail, and great relationships with players were cited as reasons he could be a great manager.

He’ll earn $1.5 million per season for three years, and the Mets have an option to pick up a fourth year.

In the press release announcing the hire, Mendoza said, “I couldn’t be more excited to manage this tremendous franchise. I want Mets fans to know that I will pour every ounce of energy into this job and we share a common goal of bringing a championship to Queens. I’m proud to represent Venezuela and the Mets and I’m grateful Steve, Alex and David gave me this wonderful opportunity.”

Cohen added that “Carlos is full of energy, passion and it was easy to see he’ll have a great rapport with both our veteran and young players.”

The press conference will air on SNY and Twitter.
