Wow, what a game last night, and what a finish. We’re being treated to some of the best and most exciting Mets baseball in almost ten years. If you’re a Mets Fan and you’re not enjoying this season so far, you need an emotional rescue.
Monday night’s dramatic 4-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays was the 17th comeback victory of the season for the Mets.
It was also their 4th walk-off win of the year and second in the last six days. This team has a lot of heart and fight in them.
Here are some reactions to the big win from the clubhouse.
Michael Cuddyer scored the tying run all the way from first after getting on by avoiding the double play thanks to some head’s up baserunning by Ruben Tejada.
“I think it’s our resiliency. We know that we’re always going to be in the game and we’re gonna give ourselves a chance to win it Whether or not we do, who knows? But all you can do is put yourself in that position and we certainly put ourselves in that position tonight.”
Lucas Duda went 2-for-5 but it was his bloop RBI single in the 11th inning against the shift that tied the game.
“We’re a pretty resilient bunch. We pitched very well and we played good defense and ultimately we won. We haven’t been swinging the bats the way we’d like to, but I think that’s going to change. We’re very excited about where we are right now.”
Wilmer Flores singled to drive home Duda with winning run. In doing so he recorded his second walk-off hit of the year and the third of his career.
“It’s a good feeling. When you win games like this, it’s because you did everything right and we executed. We battled through it and never gave up. That’s the good thing about us right now.”
Terry Collins was all smiles after the game, and give him credit for out-managing his counterpart at least on this night.
“They’re huge wins, especially when you fall behind like we did and then have to come back. It just builds tremendous confidence in the clubhouse that it can be done.”
