The New York Mets (83-62) fell to the Miami Marlins (62-83) by a score of 9-3 Tuesday night at Citi Field, snapping their eight game winning streak.

Pitching:

Jacob deGrom did not have it tonight as he lasted just five innings. DeGrom gave up 10 hits and was charged with 6 earned runs, while walking none and striking out five, raising his ERA to 2.64. The 10 hits allowed tonight were also a season-high and the second-most in a single game in his career.

The Mets bullpen didn’t fair too well themselves tonight either. The relief work for the Mets tonight combined for 4.0 innings of work while giving up 5 hits, three earned runs, two walks, and recording four strike-outs.

Dario Alvarez got tagged the hardest, allowing two earned runs while retiring one batter, and then leaving the game with a groin injury. Terry Collins didn’t sound too optimistic after the game.

Offense:

The offense had a rare off night, as they struggled mightily with runners in scoring position. In a key moment in the first inning the Mets loaded the bases against Marlins pitcher Tom Koehler, but Travis d’Arnaud popped up on the first pitch he saw, and Lucas Duda was jammed to end the inning.

The Metropolitans were 2-for-14  with runners in scoring position tonight.

David Wright had another decent night at the plate going 1-3 with a run scored, one RBI and two walks. Michael Conforto and Ruben Tejada each had two hits themselves, with Tejada also picking up an RBI.

Notes:

Well you can’t win them all as they say. The Mets left some good opportunities on the base path’s tonight as they just could not get that clutch hit that they have been used to getting as of late.

The Mets magic number sits at 10 as the Washington Nationals defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 4-0 tonight.

On Deck:

Tomorrow the Mets look to take the rubber game of the series as Bartolo Colon (14-11, 4.13 ERA) takes the mound, opposed by Marlins pitcher, Adam Conley (3-1, 4.93 ERA).
