With Monday’s 8-6 comeback win over the Miami Marlins, the Mets have now won five games in a row. They also have picked up two games on first-place Washington in that same time.

Great at-bats, and timely hitting have been the catalyst for the recent resurgence of this Mets offense. A team who had struggled with runners in scoring position have all of the sudden delivered on numerous opportunities. They are not relying on just one player to supply all the offense as it has been a true team effort.

Travis d’Arnaud, batting from the eighth spot in the lineup has had great success since his return. The Metropolitans catcher went 3-for-4 on the day while providing a homer and two RBI to go with two runs scored. In his last seven games he is hitting to a .524/.545/.667 slash line.

“To have a comeback win like this, it shows how resilient we are,” said d’Arnaud. “It shows we’ll never give up until the last out.” (NY Daily News)

Yoenis Cespedes had the big blow that put the Mets ahead for good, breaking the 6-6 tie in the eighth inning. Cespedes was 3-for-5 on the day with two RBI. He extended his hitting streak to eight games now. The streak is one game shy of his own season-best and team-best nine-game streak from April 15-29.

“I think even before those two home runs (by d’Arnaud and Curtis Granderson), we still had that positive attitude in the dugout,” Cespedes said. “The two home runs gave us the strength we needed to push through and we did.”

This was a very Marlins-like win for the Mets. It seems these are the type of games they always lose to the Miami bunch. The Mets have shown some great resiliency over the last few days after being swept by Washington and seeming to hit their rock-bottom of the 2016 season.  Keeping this up could bring great momentum into the upcoming four-game set with the Nationals.
