The Mets Are In Third Place!

With Tuesday night’s 4-3 win over the Atlanta Braves, the New York Mets moved past the Florida Marlins and into third place in the NL East. It’s the first time the Mets have been better than fourth place since April 10.

Credit the Mets rotation for turning around the Mets fortunes in the past month and a half. Last night, Jon Niese was stellar once again. Over his last five starts before Tuesday, Niese had compiled a 3-1 record and 1.34 ERA, the second-best ERA in the majors since May 18 (minimum 23 innings). The young left-hander has allowed two runs or less in his last six starts.

Jose Reyes has been an unstoppable force for the Mets this season, and last night the Braves saturated their field in an attempt to try and slow Reyes down. It was so wet and muddy that Reyes slipped three times, but he went 3 for 5 with two runs scored, a run batted in and two stolen bases while getting the last laugh. The Mets filed a complaint with Major League Baseball after the game citing safety issues and gamesmanship by the Braves.

So now the Mets are one game under .500 for the third time this month. They will send undefeated rookie Dillon Gee (7-0, 3.05) to the mound to face Tim Hudson tonight. The Mets are 9-0 in games that Gee starts. I’m feeling good about this… LETS GO METS!
