The last few days have been very interesting as far as quotes go from several notable Mets including Angel Pagan, David Wright and even manager Terry Collins got into the act. All three of them are brimming with optimism for the season that is fast approaching.

“With this lineup, if we stay healthy, and we compete on a nightly basis, I think we’re going to surprise a lot of people,…You’ve got some left-handers, you’ve got some power, you’ve got some foot speed. I like it. We’ve got a good team…Somewhere along the line, somebody is going to have to surprise you…Somebody is going to have to step up and have a career season.” ~ Terry Collins

“I don’t believe in predictions. I know what this team can do. You don’t win pennants in December or January. There are years when people predicted us to win and it didn’t happen. I have a belief in this team and let’s just see how it plays out. Last January who predicted the Giants would win the World Series.” ~ David Wright

“If we have health, we can give them a fight. Everyone is counting on Philadelphia, but they have to do it. I got my money on my team, bro. I love challenges and that’s why I’m looking forward to it. I believe in surprises. We’re looking for a better year than last year and to be in the playoffs.” ~ Angel Pagan

So how is your optimism doing these days? Are you ready for the green grass, fresh air, and the sound of bats cracking and leather popping? I know I am.

I believe this is going to be an exciting season and I look forward to going into it without all those high expectations of the last four seasons. With a few lucky breaks, I believe this team will be a surprise contender even without the big offseason signings. The way I look at it healthy seasons from Jason Bay, Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes will have a much bigger impact than any big free agent the Mets could have signed.
