This isn’t something I usually cover, but I just felt the need to put it out there. Since I can’t put this any better, i’ll just quote you from MLBtraderumors.

Because it wouldn’t be a normal day without some bad news for the Mets, Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe reports on her Twitter account that Chris Carter, the more significant of the two players rumored to be headed to the Mets in exchange for Billy Wagner, has been claimed by the New York Yankees.

Seriously, it seems as one day really cannot go by without the Mets dealing with some sort of bad news. Benjamin went on to clarify that the Red Sox pulled Carter off waivers, meaning that if he is the PTBNL, he’s not going to become a Met until the offseason. To clarify, all this claim really does is force the Red Sox to wait till the offseason to send us Chris Carter. This only hurts the Mets because they won’t get a chance to see what Carter can do until possibly the AFL, or Spring Training 2010.

Notably, the Yankees have the best record in the AL, meaning that every team had to pass on Chris Carter before the Yankees claim would be of any significance. Personally, this seems like a move out of anger against the Mets because they sent Wagner to the Red Sox. Classless.
