I know I said I was going to discontinue posting lineups before each game near the end of last season. You can get the lineup at the pre-game show on SNY or MetsBlog, who posts it as soon as he gets it.

But I had to make an exception today because as I read it this afternoon on MetsBlog, I couldn’t help thinking that this might be the best lineup Jerry Manuel has ever posted as manager of the New York Mets.

  1. Jose Reyes SS
  2. Angel Pagan RF
  3. David Wright 3B
  4. Carlos Beltran CF
  5. Ike Davis 1B
  6. Jason Bay LF
  7. Josh Thole C
  8. Luis Castillo 2B

And as promising and productive I believe this lineup to be, I am frustrated by the fact that Josh Thole may be sent down after tonight’s game, thus eliminating the possibility that we’ll see this configuration again in the near future.

Does anyone else feel the same way I do?

I think back to when J-Man took over the team in 2008 and I remember a mish-mosh in LF, Church in RF, Schneider catching, ugh… I won’t even mention 2009, and this year’s had it’s fair share of doozies with Alex Cora occupying the number two spot most of the season, and Mike Jacobs and Frank Catalanotto each getting a turn batting cleanup in the early going. Ouch…

I really, really like this lineup and only wish we can give it a week before we blow it up and start all over again.
