According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the New York Mets reached out to the Minnesota Twins in an attempt to interview Thad Levine for their general manager vacancy but he declined.
Levine, 45, is currently working as the senior VP and general manager of the Twins, a position he’s held since November of 2016.
The news comes only two days after it was reported that the Blue Jays’ VP of baseball operations Ben Cherington also turned down an interview from the Mets.
Mike Puma of the New York Post reports the Mets are tentatively planning to make their GM candidates available to the media after the second round of interviews much like the New York Yankees did last year with their manager candidates.
MLB executive Kim Ng, Milwaukee Brewers’ senior adviser Doug Melvin and St. Louis Cardinals’ director of player development Gary LaRocque are expected to be among the 10-12 candidates that interview to become the Mets next GM.
