Terry Collins wants to return as manager of the Mets in 2017, according to a report by Marc Carig of Newsday.

“If I’m back – and hopefully I am – I’ll go after it the same way,” said Collins, who has one year left on his contract.

“And if I’m not, I will say thanks a million for the fun, great relationships, and I’m going to walk away with a smile on my face.”

The Mets are not currently mulling firing any of the coaching staff or Terry Collins, Sandy Alderson told ESPN’s Adam Rubin before today’s game.

Alderson would not, however, offer any guarantee that Terry Collins or the coaching staff would survive the rest of the season. “Do I ever make any statement unequivocally?” he said. “There are no present plans to make any changes.”

He emphasized that he understands the frustrations with the way the team has played since April. “We all have an expectation of winning. None of us uses injuries as an excuse. That’s true inside the organization. That’s true for our fans as well. That’s why I understand the frustration.”

This all comes on the same day that Jon Heyman listed Collins as the most likely manager to be fired before the end of the season. He is losing allies in the front office, and it appears Alderson isn’t much of a fan.

Collins and the Mets have a tough stretch in front of them with 11 of 14 games against contending teams.
