The Buffalo Bisons lost both games of a doubleheader on Sunday, but that wasn’t all they lost. According to Bisons.com, Mets prospect Fernando Martinez suffered an apparent knee injury in the first game and did not play in the second game.
Martinez played the entire first game, but could be seen nursing his right knee in the field and out of the batter’s box. Oberkfell said he aggravated the knee trying to beat out a double-play in the sixth inning. The following inning, Martinez couldn’t chase down a fly ball in the gap. The coaching staff saw and kept him out of the second game against the Red Sox.

I’m not convinced that Martinez will ever be an impact hitter. Too many years have gone by with little to show for it.
Take a look at F-Mart’s games played in the last five years: 2006 – 76 games, 2007 – 63 games, 2008 – 90 games, 2009 – 74 games, 2010 – 71 games. In five years he’s only been able to play a little more than two seasons worth of games. Even Moises Alou fared better than that.
Now he’s hurt again and probably facing another DL stint. Crazy…
Incidentally, Bisons second baseman Justin Turner was also removed in the first game with an apparent knee injury and some sources believe it may be a season ender.
