While most of the trade hoopla has surrounded the New York Mets two front-end starter in Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard, Jon Heyman of FRS Baseball reports that teams are showing interest in Zack Wheeler.
The right-handed Wheeler averaged a career-best 97 mph in the month of June and has hit 99 mph multiple times recently which is sure to open the eyes of some teams looking for a back-end starter.
Wheeler is 2-5 with 4.82 ERA, 3.80 FIP, 1.39 WHIP and 0.5 WAR in 2018. He has struck out 72 batters compared to 28 walks in 74.2 innings and has given up eight home runs in that span.
The 28-year-old Wheeler is arbitration eligible for this offseason and a free agent after the 2019 season.
