The Arizona Diamondbacks, one of the worst teams in the National League, came into Citi Field with a game plan to beat the New York Mets, run like hell.

With four more stolen bases in Thursday’s 9-0 win over the Mets to complete the sweep, the D’Backs finished with 13 steals in the series.

The 13 stolen bases were the most steals the Mets have ever allowed in a three game series in their 55 year history. The previous record was 12 stolen bases by the Chicago Cubs in a three-game series from April 17-19, 1990.

All four swipes in the series finale came off Mets starter Noah Syndergaard, who has now allowed 36 stolen bases in 40 attempts this season. The 36 steals are the most in baseball and by a tremendous margin.

In second place? That would be Mets left-hander Steven Matz, who has allowed 20 stolen bases this season. Overall, the Mets have allowed an MLB-high 102 stolen bases this season.

Here’s a scary thought. The D’Backs were not even considered a particularly speedy team, they simply came in with a game plan and executed it to perfection.

The San Diego Padres however, are one of the fastest teams in the league, ranking third in the NL with 99 stolen bases. The Mets host the Padres for a three-game series beginning tonight at Citi Field.
