Mike Puma of the New York Post added some more context to an earlier statement and reported that a team executive was happy with the team’s performance since June 18 and that it bodes well for Terry Collins whose contract expires at season’s end. (Link via MetsBlog)

On Monday, a Mets executive (I assume the same one) told Puma that he would be surprised if manager Terry Collins were replaced after the season.
Spoke to a Mets executive today who indicated he would be surprised if Collins is replaced after the season. Front office is happy with him.

Original Post: Terry Collins – Should He Stay Or Should He Go?
Last week, I sent most of our writers a survey asking a series of questions pertinent to the second half. One of those questions was whether the Mets should Mets give Terry Collins an extension?
I haven’t made up my mind yet on Collins, but I’m leaning towards giving him the ol’ heave-ho…
That said, here is what those who responded had to say on the matter:
Daniel – I don’t think Terry Collins has done enough to warrant an extension. Sure, he was dealt a bad hand, but the team has had a propensity to quit on him. That’s not something this organization needs moving forward. Unless the Mets make the postseason, there should be no extension talks.
Joe S. – Should Mets give Terry Collins an extension? Has he deserved it? I didn’t think so either.
Gerry – Yes
Andre – Terry has been a solid “bridge” to handle the transitional phase. However, after three seasons, it´s probably time for a change after the season.
Eric — No. Too many questionable decisions.
Matthew – Nooooooooo….
Gregg – Absolutely. Give Terry a two year deal, with a club option for a third. Let him finish what he started.
Tommy – Definitely not. He has done nothing to show that he deserves to be a part of the team going forward. His game management is poor, and he has failed to maximize the little talent he has on the roster.
Jessep – Yes.
Barry – NO NO NO!
David – No, I don’t think Collins is the right type of leader to bring along these younger players. Too set in his ways in evolving times.
Robert P. – I think TC is the type of manager who can motivate young players, but his “by the book” approach is dated and bullpen management is questionable at best. I think he’s earned his money to date and should be around to season’s end, but I doubt he’s the guy to see the Mets through to the next level and think this should be the end of the road for good ol’ TC.
Joe D. – Leaning towards no. My chief gripes with Collin are many, but the three that concerns me most is his misuse of the bullpen, the way he panders to veterans at the expense of playing time for more deserving youngsters, and his very questionable in-game play calling. The way he handled the Jordany Valdespin incident was unprofessional. How he’s let young players who needed playing time like Josh Satin and Juan Lagares squander on the bench, is irresponsible. No way does he get an extension now, and most likely he shouldn’t get one period.
Nine say no to an extension, and only three said yes. What do you think?
