I am joined by MMO Senior Editor Michael Mayer, who also runs MMO’s MetsMinors.net, during today’s show.

Michael and I talk about the contributions of the “Replace-Mets” such as Seth Lugo, Robert Gsellman, Josh Smoker and T.J. Rivera. Michael has followed these guys throughout their minor league careers. Is he surprised? Can this continue and help the Mets win a Wild Card? Also hear him tell me which Mets prospect he doesn’t expect to see on the ballclub next year.

Clearly the Mets farm system is better than what the experts predicted earlier this year. One of the challenges of being a contender with a good system is retaining all the talent and managing the 40-man roster.

There are some key prospects the Mets need to make decisions on this offseason, and if they don’t add them to the 40-man, they could lose them to a rebuilding team. St. Lucie catcher Tomas Nido is one of those cases who can turn into Sandy Alderson’s version of “Jesus Flores” next season.

I round out Michael’s segment with updates on the development of Dominic Smith and Amed Rosario, as well as some quick commentary of the latest addition to the system: Tim Tebow.

Finally, although the Mets have become a feel good story, I talk about Terry Collins being the Mets biggest threat to not making the playoffs. His decision to not pinch run for Wilmer Flores on Saturday night was bad, but admitting he was “distracted” due to lining up the pitching  for the following inning is even worse.

In a season of Collins blunders it’s hard to feel confident the skipper will not undermine this run with his poor decision making.
