This week I re-examine the topic of whether too many home runs are a good thing. The Mets have 46 home runs through their first 29 games, which is the most in team history after 29 games.

New York has hit 44 home run in its last 21 games after just two in its first eight games, and overall the Mets lead the majors with 46 home runs.

100% of the Mets runs on this road trip have come via the home run. On the season, the Mets have scored 74 of their 129 runs on home runs, for a 57.4 percentage, the highest rate in the major leagues.

Even Bartolo Colon has gotten into the act. At 42 years, 349 days, Colon became the oldest player to hit his first major league home run. Colon became the fifth-oldest pitcher to homer since 1913. Only Jack Quinn (46), Dazzy Vance (43), Phil Niekro (43) and Warren Spahn (43) were older.

David Wright and Michael Conforto hit back-to-back home runs in the ninth last night and lead the majors with six back-to-back home runs this season. The club record is 13 back-to-back homers set in 2000.

What are your thoughts? Also, what other questions and concerns would you like me to discuss on air?

This week’s episode will be available 2 hours after the final pitch of the Mets-Padres finale in San Diego.
