Noah SyndergaardThe Mets (1-1) defeated the Kansas City Royals (1-1) by a score of 2-0 this afternoon at Kauffman Stadium, and in the process, split the series.

Pitching:

Noah Syndergaard got the start for the Mets, and was outstanding, tossing six scoreless innings striking out nine and allowing three hits, while walking just one.

Jim Henderson, who had a very strong spring, picked up right where he left off, pitching a clean seventh, striking out two in the process.

Addison Reed chipped in a perfect eighth before handing the ball over to Jeurys Familia, who racked up his first save of the season.

Mets pitching retired the last ten Royals to face them.

Neil. Walker

Offense:

Former Met Chris Young got the start for the Royals, and kept the Amazin’s off the board until the fourth inning, when Neil Walker hit his first home run as a Met, giving New York a 2-0 lead.

The Mets had opportunities to bust the game open in both the seventh and eighth innings, but came up empty. However, it wouldn’t matter much, as Walker’s home run proved to be enough.

David Wright, Lucas Duda, Asdrubal Cabrera and Juan Lagares each chipped in a hit in addition to Neil Walker’s home run.

On deck:

The Mets have the next couple of days off, before opening a series against the Philadelphia Phillies this weekend at Citi Field. Jacob deGrom gets the start and will take on Jerad Eickhoff. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM.
