New York Mets manager Luis Rojas provided an update on tow of his injured starting pitchers Carlos Carrasco and Noah Syndergaard while speaking with the media pregame on Tuesday afternoon at Citi Field.

Carrasco, who has been working his way back from a hamstring injury, threw a side session at Citi Field on Tuesday afternoon. Rojas said that there’s a “big chance” the right-hander will make his Mets debut on Friday night against the Cincinnati Reds.

Rojas said they’ll take a wait and see approach with how long Carrasco will pitch in his first start back. He had just the three up downs in his last outing with Triple-A Syracuse, but Rojas said Carrasco feels great and everyone is on the same page that he’s ready to roll.

“He’s ready to go, he’s excited. He’s doing everything that he needs to do to pitch in a National League game. We’re really looking forward to it,” the second-year skipper said.

Cookie Carrasco’s Mets debut in the black jerseys? It doesn’t get much better than that!

In more positive news on the injury-front, as Rojas came to the conference, right-hander Noah Syndergaard was set to throw a bullpen session off a mound for the first time since being shut down from throwing in May.

“I was looking forward to this day, I know he was too. He’s been really pumped up, he’s been working really hard and doing everything,” Rojas said.

We’ll find out more postgame how things went out there for the big right-hander. When acting GM Zack Scott met with the media on Monday afternoon, it sounded as if the Mets were still shooting for a potential return date around September 1.

Finally some much needed good news for the Mets and their starting pitching depth on the injury-front.
